Elise Eaton
Executive Director & Founder
Elise Eaton earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Bilingual Education in 1984 from Houston Baptist University where she attended as an Endowed Academic Scholar. She then taught elementary grades for 10 years in Houston, Pasadena and Fort Worth before "retiring" from public education. As a bilingual teacher, she served as a district level curriculum writer and workshop presenter, and she also served as a student teacher supervisor.
Since leaving public education, Elise has been involved in a number of homeschool support efforts. She began teaching Spanish classes for kids in 2001 shortly after moving to The Woodlands. She then founded SEEDS Academy Enrichment Co-op in 2002 and later co-founded The Home School House homeschool support center with Dianne Killian. The SEEDS program moved to the new location and the HSH Classical Academy was also born. After attending a University-Model Schools conference in 2004 with the intention of merging all of the previous programs into one University-Model School, Elise served as the Founding Director for Legacy Classical Academy (now called Legacy Preparatory Christian Academy.) In 2006 Elise founded the Extraordinary Education Family Learning Center. She has continued to serve as the Executive Director of the EE program in the years since.
Throughout her years of homeschooling, Elise has continued teaching and working with children. She has taught a wide variety of classes and camps including math, reading, science, history, Spanish, web design, engineering, sewing, robotics, and more. She even coached an EARLY Lego Robotics Team for a number of years. She has also served in many positions in churches including Area Director of Acteens/ Baptist Young Women, pianist/organist, church secretary, Sunday School teacher, Board member and even webmaster. She has also been a member of several mission teams and led teams on mission trips to locations in the USA and Mexico.
Elise began looking more closely at homeschooling when her oldest son was identified as dyslexic in the 5th grade. After homeschooling her two older children for the remainder of that year, she realized the challenges of homeschooling and the need for more enrichment and support for homeschooling families. Her older children eventually returned to and graduated from public school, but her two younger children have always been homeschooled. Elise is keenly aware of issues related to the public school system as well as the rewards and challenges of parenting kids in both traditional school and homeschool settings.
Elise and her husband, Jeff, have been married for 18 years. They are members of The Woodlands Community Church of the Nazarene, and live in The Woodlands with their two children. Her older children, Melissa and Chris, now live on their own, and Chris is a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in Music Composition and Performance. Michael, will be starting dual credit classes at Lone Star this fall, and Jason will be starting 6th grade.
